| The Super Chromega lamphouses improved on the basic design of the
Chromega heads by utilizing both the 150w tungsten-halogen lamps previously
introduced with the Chromega Halogen, and
interchangeable "mixing spheres" for smaller formats. These changes combined to improve light output
considerably.
Also new was a "lamp saver" switch which reduced the current to the lamps when the user was composing or focusing the image. This was included to extend the life of the lamps. On the units with two lamps, there was also a warning light on the power supply to indicate that one of the lamps had burned out. The dial illumination was now built-in and provided with an On/Off switch. And filtration now ranged from 0-180 units. The Super Chromega D was the first model introduced, with the Omega E enlargers finally getting a proper 5x7 Chromega head, and the Super Chromega B, which now covered up to 2¼"x2¾", following soon after. Early Super Chromega heads used the same multi-piece filters as the original Chromega lamphouse. Part way through production, Omega switched to one piece filters and a conversion kit was provided to update the earlier units. Used Advice: As with the original Chromega lamphouses, because of the difficulty and expense of replacing the acetate filters, we consider these units obsolete and would not recommend their purchase. |
