| The B635 was apparently developed for
export only. At the time, overseas distributors required a model
to compete with the small Durst and Meopta 35mm enlargers. Based
on the B600, the advantage over the competition was that it could be
easily converted to B600 specification by simply
changing the condensers and lamp. Production of the B635 continued
after the B600 was discontinued, so later models were finished in black
like the C-700. Although not marketed in the U.S., a 120V version
was widely sold in Canada.
There was never a dichroic colorhead version of the B635, since, as soon as you added the dichroic lamphouse, you essentially had a B600 dichroic enlarger. But if one wished, it was possible to mount the C-700 or C760 dichroic head on the B635 chassis using an adapter kit. In its original form with the single condenser, the B635 is only suitable for 35mm and smaller formats. Used Advice: Many owners purchased the accessory double condenser set, so some units labeled B635 may in fact be B600s. Check to see which condenser set is installed and ensure that the correct lamp is being used for the condenser installed - teardrop-shaped PH140 with the double condensers, and larger PH211 type with the single condenser. |
